(1992) - One of the early standouts of the Lowell Technological Institute hockey program, Bobby Kearin joins former teammates Gary Bishop, Mike McElligott, and Mike Geragosian as members of the LTI hockey era in the Athletic Hall of Fame. During his three-year varsity career, he scored 62 goal and 58 assists in just 62 games. An outstanding defenseman for the Terriers in his sophomore season, Bobby set three school records for defensemen scoring including most goals in a game (four against Connecticut), most powerplay goals in a game (three), and he is the only defenseman to have two shorthanded goals in one game.
Moved to center his last two years, he was the team's leading scorer his senior season with 17 goals and 24 assists in 22 games. During his junior year, he was part of the first LTI team that qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs. He scored 23 goals and 16 assists in 23 games to finish third in scoring behind co-leaders McElligott and Steve Woods.
Co-captain of the 1972-73 team, Bobby ranked 18th on the all-time scoring list. He finished his career as the third leading scorer in LTI history behind Bishop and McElligott, and was one of only four players in the LTI era (1967-75) to score more than 100 points.
Playing for the LIT freshman team because first-year players were not allowed to play for the varsity, he led the team in scoring with 25 points. That spring, he and teammate Dennis Stead were selected to play for a Merrimack Valley all-star team that toured Europe for two weeks.
After his playing days at LTI, Bobby played with the Cape Codders, the World Hockey Association's New England Whalers' affiliate in the old North American Hockey League.
