(1987) - A two-time All-American in the hammer throw, Ed Campbell was one of the top hammer throwers in school history. He and teammates Marc Lischeid and Bill Haskell gave the Chiefs one of the strongest trios of hammer throwers in the nation between 1976-78. Ed was elected to the Hall of Fame in his third year of eligibility. As a freshman, Campbell finished fourth at the 1976 Division III Championships. After missing all of his sophomore year due to a back injury, Ed finished seventh at the Penn Relays with a toss of 181-5, fourth at the Eastern League Championships throwing 185-0, and 11th at the New England Championships with a throw of 182-6 his junior year. He topped off that season with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships with a throw of 179-0 (54.80 meters) and went to the NCAA Division I Championships where he finished 18th.

During the 1978 outdoor season, Ed combined with teammates Linscheid and Haskell to set a then BC Relays combined hammer throw record of 560-3. A native of Ireland, Campbell was the third ranked hammer thrower in school history after Lischeid and Haskell.
