(1978) - Carl Brune came from the state of Pennsylvania and attended Lowell Technological Institute (1955-59) and graduated with a BS in Textile Engineering. Brune, who was drafted by the Detroit Pistons of the NBA in professional basketball, posted a career scoring average of 23.6 points per game on the hardwood. The 6'7" Brune is considered by many as LTI's greatest "big man" in its basketball history. During his sophomore year, he led LTI to their best record in 20 years (12-4) by averaging 23.4 points per game which placed him 17th in the nation among small college players. The next season found him 7th in the country in both scoring and rebounding with marks of 25.6 points per contest and a 21.0 rebounding pace. His senior year average of 29.0 was second nationally in small college hoop circles and his rebounding average placed him 11th in the rankings. Bruce poured in 44 points in one game during the 1958-59 season to set a standard which lasted until Hank Brown tallied 48 points in 1966. The former LTI captain ranked third among all-time scoring leaders with seasons of 295, 374, 409, and 435 giving him a career total of 1513 points.

Brune's athletic accomplishments were not limited to just basketball as the talented athlete also won varsity letters in soccer and baseball. Despite his size, he was agile enough to be the soccer goalie and on the baseball diamond, he was a standout pitcher.
