(1984) - Quite possibly the finest two-sport athlete to represent ULowell in the late 1970's, Tommy Jacobs' athletic achievements in hockey and baseball have earned him a spot among the school's all-time greats in both sports and a position in the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

The only athlete in ULowell history to twice win the Lester A. Cushing Award as the school's top male athlete, Tommy helped lead the 1978-79 hockey team to the ECAC Division II East and NCAA Division II championships. In the ECAC final, he scored three goals in the final period to wipe out a 1-0 Salem State lead and provide the Chiefs with the margin of victory.

On the baseball diamond, he helped lead the Chiefs to their first ever NCAA Northeast Region tournament berth in 1979. A fierce competitor, Tommy got off the plane in Florida after winning the NCAA hockey title and hit a home run his first time at bat.

The captain of both teams as a senior, Tommy helped the hockey team to a 72-31-3 record and the baseball squad to a 75-44 mark during his four years. He was the recipient of the prestigious Thom Lawler Award as the outstanding Division II hockey player in New England as a senior and was the ECAC tournament's outstanding player in 1979.

If statistics mean anything, Jacobs is a true Hall of Famer. He ranked in the top ten in four categories in hockey and 14 offensive areas in baseball. In hockey, he was the second all-time leading scorer with 200 points while in baseball he was the sixth best hitter with a .345 average.

One of the school's first two hockey All-Americans (1979), Jacobs played in the Boston Bruins organization for three years.
