(1990) - A standout two-sport athlete at the University of Lowell, Stu McCord is the first member of the soccer and lacrosse programs to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He was elected to the Hall in his second year of eligibility.
A tough, hard-nosed defender/midfielder for the soccer team and a high scoring middie for the lacrosse team, Stu was one of the finest two-sport athletes to play for the Chiefs during the 1980's. His accomplishments in each sport were worth of Hall of Fame consideration on their own merits.
In soccer, Stu ranked fourth all-time in goals scored (12) and first in assists (14). His 38 points ranked him fourth. He was named to the All-New England team as a senior. A co-captain as a senior and a tri-captain as a junior, he played on the Chiefs ECAC Division II championship team as a freshman. Stu was one of the mainstays of coach "Duke" Diaz's teams that reached the zenith (1980-83) of the soccer program's success. Those four teams compiled a combined record of 33-25-12 including an 11-4-2 mark in 1981.
Possibly the best midfielder to ever play lacrosse at ULowell, Stu was co-MVP as a freshman after scoring 27 goals and 10 assists for coach Grant Carrow. Playing under Steve Connolly the next year, he was named All-Colonial League after tallying 25 goals and 20 assists.
