(1981) - Julius Jarek was a real basketball star for Lowell Textile (1927-31). The high scoring forward was a key performer for the 1930-31 squad which rang up Textile's best mark with an impressive 14-3 record. Their three losses were by a total of nine points while Jarek led them to big wins over schools such at M.I.T., New Hampshire, St. Michael's, Vermont, Clark, Assumption, and Villanova.

In the days of low-scoring hoop games, one week Jarek scored 18 points in each game as Lowell upset both St. Michael's 29-18) and Vermont (32-18). His senior year found the former captain the second leading scorer in New England and listed as Honorable Mention in the All-New England College Basketball Team.

After graduation, Jarek continued to play basketball in the Lowell area starring for the local YMCA. He also served two and a half years with the Navy during World War II reading the rank of Lieutenant on the staff of Fleet Air Wing III.
