(1986) - The player to accumulate 100 career points quicker than any other in the 19-year history of his sport, Mike McElligott was one of the truly outstanding players in the Lowell Technological Institute-University of Lowell hockey history. He was selected to the Hall of Fame in his tenth year of eligibility and is the fifth member of his sport to be so honored.

Mike was the first hockey player ever to earn ECAC Division II All-Star honors when he was named to the 1971-72 team after leading the then Lowell Tech team to its first every playoff berth. He was the ECAC's leading scorer during the previous season tallying 23 goals and 33 assists for 56 league points. He scored his first 100 points in just 36 games on the way to a career total 151 points.

Mike's 55 career goals were 13th best and his 96 assists ranked him eighth overall. The 63 points he scored in the 1970-71 season was a school record that stood until 1978-79.

Three times during his sparkling career he led or tied for the team lead in scoring. he shared the most goals scored in 1970-71 with team- and linemate Gary Bishop (25) and led the team in assists three straight seasons, the only player to ever accomplish that geat. He was co-captain of the 1971-72 team along with Bob Kearin.

An outstanding student as well, Mike graduated in 1972 with a BS in Math with High Honors and completed his MS in Math at UMass Amherst.
