(1992) - Another in the long line of outstanding distance runners coached by George Davis, Mike Hurton is a former New England champion at the 5K meters and held the school record indoors at the 3K meters. He was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame in his seventh year of eligibility.

The captain of the 1979 cross country team that won the IC4A College Division Championship, and was the first team to qualify for the NCAA Division II championship, Mike finished 26th at the championship to miss earning All-American honors by one place. He also was the captain for the indoor and outdoor track teams his senior year and capped off his career by winning the New England outdoor track championship at the 5K.

During his four-year career, Mike qualified for six different NCAA championships. He earned a varsity letter all four years in each season for a total of 12 letters. On three occasions, he earned All-Eastern League honors in cross country, indoor track (2-mile), and outdoor track (5K). In addition to his New England championship, he also took second places in the two mile at the 1980 indoor championships and the 10K at the 1979 outdoor championships. He was the first ULowell runner to earn All-New England honors in cross country (1979).
