(1992) - A three year letterman in indoor and outdoor track and a two-year letterman in cross country for coach George Davis, Dennis Simonaitis was elected to the Athletic Hall of Fame in his second year of eligibility. He was an outdoor track All-American at 10K meters in 1984 and 1986.
A transfer to the University from Dean Junior College, Simonaitis was a valuable member of the Chiefs' cross country team that finished third in the 1983 NCAA Division II Championship. He was consistently among the team's top four finishers in every race in 1983, and finished 28th in the NCAA's to just miss earning an All-American (top 25) citation.
In the indoor track, he was seventh at the 1984 New England Championships in the two mile and a member of the school-record-setting distance medley relay. During the 1984-85 season, he was third at the New England's in the 5K with a school record time of 14:11.00. He qualified for the NCAA's in the 5K and finished ninth at the national championship.
In his final indoor season, he was the Eastern League champion in the two-mile with a school record time of 8:48.64, and the New England champion at the 5K. He is ranked among the Chiefs' top ten runners in the 1K, 1.5K, one mile, 3K, two mile and 5K.
Outdoors, Simonaitis was an All-American in the 10K after finishing fifth in a time of 30:55.45, and All-Eastern League at 5K in 1984. He qualified for the NCAA's at 5K in 1985. Dennis picked up his second All-American citation in the 10K in 1986 placing fifth in a time of 29:54.30.
Among the Chiefs' all-time outdoor top ten lists, Dennis ranked second in the 1.5K and 5K, and third in the 10K.
