(1980) - After graduation from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 1964, Albert L. (Skip) Roper Jr. entered Lowell Technological Institute and immediately became a standout athlete in both basketball and baseball. He is LTI's fourth leading career scorer in basketball with 1174 points. Roper was a starting guard on the 1965-66 team scoring 359 points as a sophomore as the team rang up LTI's best record at 17-2.

A top notch third baseman in baseball, Roper was honored as the recipient of the coveted Lester H. Cushing Award as the outstanding senior athlete in 1968 at LTI. Elected as team captain in both sports, Roper also served as president of the Varsity Club and held membership in Omicron Pi fraternity. He was nominated for and played in the Basketball Hall of Fame All-Star Classic in Springfield in 1968.

The son of a former All-New England baseball pitcher from the University of New Hampshire, Roper continued to excel on the local sports scene after graduation. He has been the leading basketball scorer in both the Lowell Town League and the Westford Basketball League. Roper also was a fine softball player for a number of teams in the Greater Lowell area.
