27 River Hawks Tabbed to Hockey East All-Academic Team

WAKEFIELD, Mass.—For the third consecutive season, the UMass Lowell men's hockey program led Hockey East with a league-high 27 student-athletes tabbed to the 2020-21 Hockey East All-Academic Team, as announced by the league Friday.
 
UMass Lowell's 27 student-athletes were a part of a record-setting 187 honoree Hockey East All-Academic Team, which each student-athlete achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which he was actively competing.
 
Nine River Hawk juniors—Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.), Chase Blackmun (Hudson, Wis.), Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ontario), Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.), Jon McDonald (Livonia, Mich.), Austin O'Rourke (Canton, Ga.), Dominick Procopio (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), Nolan Sawchuk (Burnsville, Minn.) and Reid Stefanson (Winnipeg, Manitoba)—made the list for the third time in their careers.
 
Blackmun, Procopio and Stefanson also earned Top Scholar-Athlete distinction, which is bestowed upon student-athletes who compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA for the season. For their academic achievements, the trio was named to the 2020-21 Hockey East Academic All-Star Team.
 
Eight sophomores—Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden), Matt Brown (Wood Ridge, N.J.), Brian Chambers (Weymouth, Mass.), Zach Kaiser (Orangeville, Ontario), Marek Korencik (Zilina, Slovakia), Logan Neaton (Brighton, Mich.), Jordan Schulting (Penticton, B.C.) and Blake Wells (Blackie, Alberta)—as well as senior goaltender Benjamin McEvoy (Dunstable, Mass.) also made the All-Academic cut for a second consecutive season.
 
To cap off his undergraduate career, McEvoy was also the recipient of the 2021 UMass Lowell Chancellor's Medal, which is the university's highest honor bestowed upon graduating seniors.
 
Seniors Anthony Baxter (Oakville, Ontario), Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ontario) and Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) received Distinguished Honor accolades for earning a 3.0 or better in each semester of their four varsity seasons.
 
This season, the River Hawks earned the 2021 Griffin Award after earning a combined 3.67 GPA. The university honor is annually bestowed upon the men's and women's program with the highest grade point average at the end of each academic year.
