River Hawks Start America East Play at Binghamton

LOWELL, Mass. – Fresh off back-to-back wins, the UMass Lowell women's soccer team (3-4-1) begins a tough America East Conference slate at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, at Binghamton (4-2-2). The Bearcats were picked second in the America East preseason poll, while the River Hawks were selected fourth.
Shutout Season
For the first time since 2024, the River Hawks recorded back-to-back shutouts. All three goalkeepers appeared in UMass Lowell's 1-0 wins over Stonehill and New Haven.
Wonderful Welch
Junior Rachel Welch (Franklin, Mass.) became the first River Hawk to win the newly introduced America East Goalkeeper of the Week award thanks to her shutout effort at Stonehill. She logged four saves against the Skyhawks. Welch is the second UMass Lowell goalkeeper in the Division I era to win a conference weekly award behind Taylor Burgess.
Additionally, Welch earned the River Hawk of the Week award and had one of her saves nominated for the IWSOC Save of the Week. She won the Save of the Week in week one for a double save at Providence.
Scoring Threat
In five matches played this season, sophomore Nina Hertz-Saebbö (Gothenburg, Sweden) has scored four goals, which leads the America East. While a player must play in 75 percent of team matches to qualify, Hertz-Saebbö's .800 goals per match mark would lead the conference and be 33rd in the nation.
Quick Strike
Junior Mia Eva Girgis (Montreal, Quebec) scored just 41 seconds into the second half against Stonehill last Thursday. It's the quickest UMass Lowell goal to start a half since Emily Nelson scored 32 second into a match against Bryant on September 9, 2018.
Series History
UMass Lowell is 4-10-2 all-time against Binghamton. However, the River Hawks haven't lost to Binghamton on the road since 2022.
