LOWELL, Mass. – Three assists in two matches last week propelled sophomore Nora Belin (Stockholm, Sweden) past Calliste Brookshire for the UMass Lowell women's soccer Division I single-season assist record. Following the excellent week, the forward was named River Hawk of the Week, presented by Worker's Credit Union.
Â
With UMass Lowell leading NJIT 1-0 late, Belin broke the record and helped ice the match. She dropped a downfield pass to freshman Ines Pietikainen (Espoo, Finland), who found senior Luka Marceau (Newton, Mass.) wide open for the goal.
Â
She logged the historic assist less than 72 hours after scoring a late goal and assisting two other River Hawk goals against New Hampshire. She dished out assists to sophomore Nina Hertz-Saebbö (Gothenberg, Sweden) and redshirt freshman Elsa Freeman (Portland, Maine). Freeman earned an America East Rookie of the Week selection for her strong week.
Â
Up next, the River Hawks face Bryant in a crucial Senior Day clash. UMass Lowell controls its own destiny in the America East Women's Soccer Championship, as a win gets them into the field of six. A tie coupled with a Vermont loss to Binghamton would put them into a tiebreak situation with the Catamounts.
Â
Kickoff at Cushing Field is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 1. Admission is free, courtesy of Eastern Salt and Mahoney Oil.
