After a record-breaking performance in the pentathlon at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Boston University last Friday, graduate student Ali Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) has been named River Hawk of the Week.Â
The multi-event athlete racked up 3680 points in the pentathlon with four event personal records to win the pentathlon by 120 points.
It all started in the 60m hurdles, where she finished second with a time of 8.77. She then went on to hit a personal-best mark in the remaining four events, kicking it off with a 1.51m (4'11.50") mark in the high jump. Theat was followed by the shot put, where she earned the victory with a 10.48m (34'4.75") toss, before leaping to a second-place finish and 5.65m (18'6.50") mark in the long jump. The 800m run closed out the event, and Grasso zoomed to a 2:22.94 mark to pick up the victory and snag the UMass Lowell pentathlon record.
