BOSTON – After playing a pivotal part of a defense that allowed only eight goals in a 15-8 win over New Hampshire to begin conference play, UMass Lowell women's lacrosse freshman
Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Against the Wildcats, Carter caused two turnovers in the third quarter, tying the game-high, to hold New Hampshire scoreless in the period. The freshman also had a knack for getting to the loose ball, collecting three ground balls in the match, the second most on the team. This is Carter's second weekly award after being named the America East Defensive Player of the Week in Week Two.
For her efforts, Carter was also named the River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
Carter and the River Hawks return to action this Saturday, March 22, when they head north to take on the Vermont Catamounts. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Virtue Field in Burlington, Vermont.
