Freshman foward Scott Wilson (Oakville, Ont.) was named UMass Lowell’s Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Tuesday after leading the men’s ice hockey to a pair of victories over Northeastern University. The River Hawks won 4-0 at the Tsongas Center and 3-2 in overtime win at Matthews Arena last Friday and Saturday.
On Friday evening, Wilson scored twice in the 4-0 win over Northeastern. He scored the opening goal five minutes into the first period. He also scored the last goal of the evening on a breakaway with 17 seconds remaining in the second period.
On Saturday night he had a goal and assist. He scored a power play goal to tie the score at one in the first period. Then in the second period, Wilson picked off a Husky pass and assisted on the game tying goal by Colin Wright.
Wilson scored three goals and added an assist in the weekend sweep of Northeastern. For the season, Wilson leads all Hockey-East rookies with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists. He leads the nation among rookies with 1.05 points per game.
Wilson was also named Hockey East Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
Wilson is the son of Cathy and Steven Wilson of Oakville, Ont.
