Biography

The familiar and passionate voice of Bob Ellis returns to the airwaves for his 26th season of UMass Lowell hockey. Ellis describes the action on WUML 91.5 FM, the University[apos]s radio station which can be heard within a 25 to 30-mile radius, as far away as Boston and the Seacoast. In addition to his play-by-play responsibilities, he is also a Media Relations Specialist with the University; acting as a staff photographer and producing the daily video segment [quote]The River Hawk Report[quote]. A well-known radio personality throughout Massachusetts, Ellis has served for nine years as the play-by-play announcer for the Lowell Spinners, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox of the New York-Penn League. He is one of several official scorers for the Boston Red Sox and served, for several seasons, as the official scorer at Lowell Spinners home games. Over the course of his career, Ellis has been the recipients of several awards from the United Press International. He is also the co-founder and co-instructor of the Baseball Official Scoring Seminars, providing official scoring clinics several times a year. A 1975 graduate of Emerson College, Ellis earned his bachelors degrees in mass communication and history and began his broadcasting career at WATS/WAVR-FM in Sayre, Pa. in 1975. He came to WLLH Radio in Lowell as a news reporter in 1984 and became a fixture at UML games. He has also previously worked at WKBK in Keene, N.H. Ellis[apos] broadcasting career includes interviews with Presidents, Presidential candidates and reporting from overseas. A native of New York, N.Y., Ellis was a four-year hockey player at Emerson and was named captain and Team MVP as a senior. He led the team in scoring in three of his four seasons. Ellis resides in Lowell, Mass.
