River Hawks Host Holy Cross on Senior Day, Visit Iona

LOWELL, Mass. – Following a tight, 1-0 loss on the road, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (1-2-1) hosts Holy Cross (0-3-1) on Tuesday, September 8, before visiting Iona (1-1-1) on Saturday, September 12. Prior to the match against the Crusaders, the team will honor five River Hawks in a Senior Day Ceremony.

LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks enter Tuesday's match after falling to Massachusetts, 1-0. Leading the River Hawks' offense in that game, junior Linus Musielak (Dortmund, Germany) finished the night with four shots, including two on goal. Junior Justin Godbout-Garon (Québec City, Canada) added two shots with one on goal of his own, while junior Jonah Straube (Frankfurt, Germany) posted two shots as well. In net, sophomore Alvaro Medrano (Guatemala City, Guatemala) finished with two saves.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through the first three games of the season, junior Santiago Somorrostro (Nashua, N.H.), senior Ethan Agyare-Danso (Etobicoke, Canada), and Straube have all scored a goal to pace the squad. Junior Saihaj Kailay (Belleville, Ontario), along with Musielak and Godbout-Garon, all add an assist, while Godbout-Garon and Musielak also post a team-high six shots. In net, junior Moritz Aé (Leipzig, Germany) has made two starts with ten saves, while Medrano totals seven saves in his two starts.

FRESH FACES
The newest members of the team have already made an impact on the program, as 11 newcomers have made at least one start this year, while two have started in all four games so far. Additionally, two of the new River Hawks have both contributed to the team's scoring, with Straube scoring a goal and Godbout-Garon adding an assist.

FOREVER A RIVER HAWK
In July, the River Hawks lost a friend and teammate when junior goalkeeper Toby Forsythe (Columbus, Ohio) passed away in a tragic accident. The River Hawks will honor him every game this season by wearing warm-up shirts with his name and number before every match. Additionally, all the River Hawks' jerseys now feature a "Toby 32" patch on the sleeve.

SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross enters Tuesday's match with a 0-3-2 record, most recently battling to a 1-1 draw against Iona. Leading the Crusaders' offense, Archie Hatcher has scored two goals for a team-leading four points, while Jude Jakes-McKay paces the squad with two assists. In net, Caleb Klepacz has started four of five matches, allowing 10 goals while making seven saves for a 0-2-2 record, while Mateo Buyu allowed two goals with two saves in his one start.

SCOUTING IONA
The Gaels enter this week with a 1-1-2 record after earning the draw against Holy Cross in their home opener this past weekend. Both Ignacio Manzanares and Francesco Borla lead the team with four points, while Manzanares has a team-best two goals. Borla, meanwhile, is tied with Enbiya Bolur with two assists each to pace the team. In net, Josh Bells and Adriano Sofio have both made two starts, with Bells making 14 saves with five goals allowed, while Sofio has allowed only one goal with ten saves.

MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Crusaders have battled eight times, with Holy Cross owning a 4-3 advantage, despite UMass Lowell winning the last two matchups. Meanwhile, Saturday's matchup between UMass Lowell and Iona marks the first in the series history.
