BOSTON – After an impressive defensive performance that helped shutout Bryant in a 0-0 draw, UMass Lowell men's soccer junior goalkeeper Eijin Magota (Tokyo, Japan) was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week, while junior Sho Kinjo (Nara, Japan) was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week.
In Saturday's match against the Bulldogs, Magota stepped up big for the UMass Lowell, entering the game only a minute into the second half for his first appearance as a River Hawks. In 44 minutes of action, the junior goalkeeper posted four saves on eight shots faced, helping keep the shutout and help earn his team a point in the standings.
Kinjo, meanwhile, also played a key role on the defensive backline, playing all 90 minutes to help lead the team's defense. Most importantly, the junior's quick reaction led him to jumping in front of a shot by the opposition to preserve the shutout.
This marks the first weekly award for both Magota and Kinjo.
The River Hawks are back in action this Saturday, October 24, when they host the NJIT Highlanders on Alumni Night.
