LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Eijin Magota (Tokyo, Japan) made four saves in the second half, as the UMass Lowell River Hawks (5-4-3, 1-2-1 AE) battled to a 0-0 draw against the Bryant Bulldogs (8-2-3, 2-1-1 AE) on Saturday afternoon.

Leading the UMass Lowell offense, juniors Justin Godbout-Garon (Québec City, Canada) and Santiago Somorrostro (Nashua, N.H.) each posted two shots, including one on goal, while senior Linus Musielak (Dortmund, Germany) and junior Adam Abdelaal (Orlando, Fl.) each contributed a shot on target. In net, junior Moritz Aé (Leipzig, Germany) made one save in 46 minutes of action, while Magota made four saves in the final 44 minutes of play.

"We fought hard," said Head Coach Kyle Zenoni. "We had to deal with some adversity, and it was tough, Mo went down with an injury, and Eijin stepped in and did great. It's not easy to go into a game like that, and he did amazing. The boys fought really, really hard today. Getting a shutout, I mean Bryant's obviously a top team in the country, we looked good today."

The game started with both sides in a hard-fought battle for possession, with neither team logging a shot for well over ten minutes. The River Hawks, however, were the first to break through with a shot opportunity, as Musielak ripped a shot on target at 13:09, but the opposing keeper fell on top of it to keep UMass Lowell from striking first. Looking to retaliate, Bryant started to find their footing offensively, stringing together the next six shots of the match, but Aé made a save on the only one on target to keep things scoreless through the 34^th minute.

In the final ten minutes of the first half, the hosts once again put pressure on the opposition's defense, starting with a shot that just went wide by Godbout-Garon in the 36^th minute. Moments later, Somorrostro added a shot of his own, but was unable to find the back of the net, sending the game into halftime scoreless.

Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs quickly moved down the field and fired off a pair of shots, but the UMass Lowell defense was up for the challenge, blocking both attempts. The back-and-forth battle continued over the next 15 minutes, with the shots staying equal at 2-2 during that time. In the 70^th minute however, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick with a chance to take the lead, but their shot ricocheted off the left post.

In the final 20 minutes, the River Hawks looked to take a late lead and nearly had it in the 87^th minute. Moving the ball down the right side of the pitch, Somorrostro sent a near perfect pass to the left side of the box. On the other end of the pass, Abdelaal saw an opportunity and sprint full speed to the ball before diving headfirst to try and head in the go-ahead goal, but Bryant's keeper barely got his fingertips on it, redirecting it off the post and out of play. In the final three minutes, the visitors logged one final shot, but Magota jumped in front of it, sealing the 0-0 decision.

Next up, the River Hawks host NJIT for Alumni Night on Saturday, October 24. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Cushing Field.
