River Hawks Hit the Road to Battle Massachusetts

LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over CCSU in the 2026 home opener, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (1-1-1) hits the road to visit the Massachusetts Minutemen (1-1-1) on Wednesday, September 2. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Rudd Field in Amherst, Massachusetts.
LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks enter Wednesday's match after taking down CCSU, 2-1, behind a pair of late goals. Against the Blue Devils, junior Jonah Straube (Frankfurt, Germany) and senior Ethan Agyare-Danso (Etobicoke, Canada) each scored a goal, while senior Linus Musielak (Dortmund, Germany) and junior Justin Godbout-Garon (Québec City, Canada) each added an assist. In net, Moritz Aé (Leipzig, Germany) made five saves, with the only goal allowed coming off a penalty kick.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Through the first three games of the season, junior Santiago Somorrostro (Nashua, N.H.), Straube, and Agyare-Danso all lead the squad with a goal apiece. Junior Saihaj Kailay (Belleville, Ontario), along with Musielak and Godbout-Garon, all add an assist, while Godbout-Garon also posts a team-high four shots. In net, Aé has made two starts with ten saves, while sophomore Alvaro Medrano (Guatemala City, Guatemala) made five saves in his lone start. Â
FRESH FACES
The newest members of the team have already made an impact on the program, as nine newcomers have made at least one start this year, while three have started in all three games so far. Additionally, two of the new River Hawks have both contributed to the team's scoring, with Straube scoring a goal and Godbout-Garon adding an assist.
FOREVER A RIVER HAWK
In July, the River Hawks lost a friend and teammate when junior goalkeeper Toby Forsythe (Columbus, Ohio) passed away in a tragic accident. The River Hawks will honor him every game this season by wearing warm-up shirts with his name and number before every match. Additionally, all the River Hawks' jerseys now feature a "Toby 32" patch on the sleeve.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
Massachusetts enters Wednesday's match with a 1-1-1 record this season, battling to a 2-2 draw against #10 Bryant, taking down #24 UConn 3-1, before falling to Harvard, 4-1. Leading the way offensively for the Minutemen is sophomore Thomas Wadas, who has scored twice on six shots, including the game-winner against UConn. Meanwhile, Henry Hutchinson and David Street each add two assists, and in net, Dean Linden has started all three games, allowing seven goals with 16 saves for a 0.696 save percentage.
