LOWELL, Mass. – An offensive explosion helped the UMass Lowell women's soccer team (1-2-1) tie a program scoring record in a 5-2 victory over Merrimack (0-2-1). The River Hawks scored five goals in a match for the first time since taking down New Haven 5-1 last September.

For the first time in program history, the River Hawks had three different players log both a goal and an assist. Marissa Sage (Milford, N.H.) added a brace on two shots, drilling a laser over the Merrimack goalkeeper in the first half before ending the scoring with a late goal.

Sophomore Nora Belin (Stockholm, Sweden) led the charge with a first-half goal and two assists, adding five shots to her tally. Fellow sophomore Nina Hertz-Saebbö (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored her third goal of the season and assisting the opening goal. Senior Luka Marceau (Newton, Mass.) rounded out the group after scoring for the second straight match and adding an assist.

In goal, sophomore Lucie Chumanová (Prague, Czech Republic) made her first start of the season and logged four saves.

As a team, UMass Lowell outshot Merrimack 16-12. The River Hawks' 10 shots on goal were the most from the team since the New Haven match on September 14, 2025.

Starting the match off around the two-minute mark, Belin fired off a shot that went just left of the goal. Continuing the pressure soon after, Belin broke away down the field and dished out a spectacular pass to Marceau, who slotted it past the goalkeeper to put UMass Lowell up 1-0.

The Warriors equalized soon after, with Sophia Keogh scoring off a corner kick. UMass Lowell controlled possession over the next few minutes, with Belin and senior Diana Jedrychowski (Farmington, Conn.) rattling off shots.

Marceau wasted no time getting back in the point column, as she made a slick pass to set up Sage's missile into the top part of the goal. Sage's second goal of the season put UMass Lowell up 2-1 at 17 minutes.

The River Hawks wasted no time in adding another goal, as Belin chased down the Merrimack goalkeeper. The 2025 America East Rookie of the Year stole the ball and deposited it into the net for an easy first goal of the season.

While UMass Lowell entered the break up 3-1, the Warriors came back quickly after halftime. Bella Keogh drove down the field and scored a goal to cut the lead to 3-2 in the 50th minute.

At 57 minutes, the River Hawks got the goal back, as Hertz-Saebbö punched one into the bottom left corner to make it 4-2. Just five minutes later, Sage found the back of the net again to make it 5-2, with Belin earning another assist.

Up next, the River Hawks travel to play a match in the state of South Carolina for the first time in the school's Division I history. UMass Lowell takes on Charleston in Mount Pleasant, S.C., at 6 p.m. on August 30.
