LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (4-5-4, 1-1-3 AE) looks to capture a second straight America East win when New Hampshire (3-8-2, 0-5-0 AE) visits Cushing Field at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. The River Hawks are fresh off a 2-0 home win over UMBC.
Â
Spectacular Sundberg
Freshman Märta Sundberg (Stockholm, Sweden) was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week as she played 87 minutes in the shutout effort. So far this season, Sundberg leads all River Hawks with 1028 minutes played and has started in 12 of 13 matches. In addition to becoming the first River Hawk to win Defensive Player of the Week since 2024, she also earned a River Hawk of the Week honor.
Â
Belin with the Brace
So far this season, sophomore Nora Belin has primarily logged stats in the assist column, with six in 2026. However, she netted her second and third goals of the season against the Retrievers, dropping in a first-half header and delivering a strike in the second half. She scored the first brace by a UMass Lowell player since senior Marissa Sage (Milford, N.H.) had one against Merrimack earlier this season.
Â
Series History
The River Hawks are 3-4-4 all-time against the Wildcats. At home, that mark sits at 3-1-3, and it's been 12 years since New Hampshire left Cushing Field with a victory.
Â
Conference Season on Lock
While junior goalkeeper Rachel Welch (Franklin, Mass.) started the season strong with a program-record 14 saves at Providence, she's arguably only gotten better as the team moved into America East play. Welch leads the America East in saves (23) and save percentage (.885) since conference play began. Additionally, she is third in the conference with a 0.62 GAA mark in that timeframe.
Â
Signature Win
The River Hawks convincingly beat UMBC, who entered the match as the second team in the America East standings and No. 133 in the NCAA RPI. UMass Lowell's win is its best this season, according to RPI. Following the win, the team leaped from No. 214 in the rankings to No. 181. Mira Novak's squad has played three top 100 RPI squads this season in Dartmouth (No. 43), Massachusetts (No. 45) and Fairfield (No. 63).
Â

After the showdown against the Wildcats, the River Hawks continue their conference stretch run with a road match at NJIT. The match in Newark, N.J., starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 25.
