River Hawks Return Home to Face UMBC

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (3-5-4, 0-1-3 AE) is set to play its second home conference match on Sunday, October 18, at noon against UMBC (9-3-2, 3-1 AE). The River Hawks celebrate Alumni Day and recognize America East's Spread Respect initiative during the match.

Series History
The River Hawks have historically seen success against the Retrievers, who are in the midst of their winningest season since 2014. All time, the River Hawks own a 9-3-1 record against UMBC. Last season, UMass Lowell took them down on the road, 1-0.

Consistency is Key
Sophomore Nina Hertz-Saebbö (Gothenburg, Sweden) has six goals this season, a total that would've tied for the team lead last season and is second in the America East. The forward leads the conference in goals per match (0.67) and points per match (1.44) and ranks 39th and 61st in the nation in those categories.

Brick Wall
At goalkeeper, junior Rachel Welch (Franklin, Mass.) continues to be a strong force. She's 15th in the country and first in the America East with six saves per match. The keeper also holds an .818 save percentage, which is third in the conference and 62nd in the nation.

Dishing out the Assists
Sophomore Nora Belin (Stockholm, Sweden) is ranked second in the conference and 42nd in the country with six assists. She averages an assist every other match.

On Target
As a team, UMass Lowell leads the America East in shot accuracy, with a mark of .483. The figure is good for 79th among NCAA Division I programs.

Scoring Opportunities
Against UAlbany last Sunday, the River Hawks set season highs in both shots and shots on goal. The offense generated 17 total shots, 12 of which were on goal. It's the most shots in a match since the River Hawks had 19 against Bryant last November, and the most on goal since exploding for 26 shots on goal at New Haven in September 2025.
