WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The UMass Lowell baseball team (3-4) fell to the William & Mary Tribe (6-1) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, 10-0, at Plumeri Park.

Juniors Alex Luccini (Hopedale, Mass.) and Brandon Fish (Londonderry, N.H.) each tallied a hit on Sunday. Graduate student Ryan Proto (Centerville, Mass.) and senior Trey Brown (Rochester, N.Y.) also each had one hit on the afternoon.

Sophomore Jacob Jette (Franklin, Mass.) led the pitchers with two strikeouts while graduate student Miles Cota (Hampstead, NC) and sophomore Michael Simes (Rutland, Mass.) each recorded one strikeout. Â
"When you walk as many guys as we did and strike out as many times as we did, it's nearly impossible to win games," said head coach Nick Barese. "Hopefully this is a learning experience for us, and a chance to bounce back from some adversity."

A single in the first gave William & Mary the early lead in the series finale. Jacob Jette took over for Mucciarone in the second inning after the hosts tacked on a second run. The sophomore ended the frame to bring the offense back to the plate. UMass Lowell couldn't find a rhythm offensively in the first three frames. The Tribe tallied five runs on four hits in the third to push the lead to seven.

Zach Fortuna took over in the fifth and struck out one, but William & Mary scored one run and led by eight. Two runs on two hits in the sixth gave the hosts a comfortable 10-run edge. The River Hawks struggled to string together hits, with just three through the first six frames.

UMass Lowell was held scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings by the William & Mary pitching core. Senior Andres Hulfachor (Nashua, N.H.) Â threw a scoreless eighth and struck out one to give the River Hawks one more chance to get back into the game. UMass Lowell went down in the final frame and fell 10-0 in the series finale.

Next up, the River Hawks visit Kansas State for a weekend series. Game one is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1 at the Tointon Family Stadium.
