LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Hockey team earned a 3-2 Hockey East win against No. 16 ranked Boston College on Friday night at the Tsongas Center in front of 6,227 fans.

The River Hawks improve to 15-11-0 overall (10-7-0 HEA) with the victory, while the Eagles drop to 12-10-3 overall (12-5-0 HEA) with the loss. UMass Lowell has now won nine of its last 11 Hockey East game since Nov. 10th.

"We were certainly pleased to get two points tonight, we played against a good hockey club," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "It was just another example of Hockey East, a lot of up and down play and I thought there were a lot of momentum shifts we had to navigate through and fortunately for us we responded and got the last one."

Redshirt freshman Chris Schutz (Keller, Texas) beat BC goalie Joseph Woll with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle for his third career goal to give the River Hawks the lead at 3-2.

BC's Graham McPhee scored his second of the game just 3:16 after the first to tie the game at 2-2 for his 10th tally of the year. McPhee got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a power play goal just 2:08 into the third period to make it a 2-1 game for his team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Senior forward Ryan Collins (Newton, Mass.) got the River Hawks on the board just 2:58 into the second period with his third goal off a tip from a Mattias Goransson (Slottsbron, Sweden) shot from the left faceoff circle. UMass Lowell's Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) extended the lead to 2-0 at 13:20 with a pretty wrist shot from the below the right faceoff circle that beat Woll glove side.

The team skated to a scoreless opening period with the River Hawks holding a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Sophomore forward Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded a team-high four shots on goal for the River Hawks. Sophomore forward Ryan Lohin (Chadds Ford, Pa.) won a team-high 13 face-offs in the victory for the River Hawks.

Sophomore goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) totaled 25 shots in his third win of the season, which included 12 saves in the second period. Woll recorded 23 stops in the losing effort for the Eagles.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, January 27th in the second game of the series at Boston College. Game time from Conte Forum is 7 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESPN3.
