CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Hockey team was defeated at No. 16 ranked Boston College, 5-2 on Saturday night at Conte Forum in Hockey East play.
The River Hawks drop to 15-12-0 overall (10-8-0 HEA) with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 13-10-3 overall (13-5-0 HEA) with the win.
Freshman forward
Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) and senior defenseman
Tommy Panico (Wall, N.J.) scored goals just 1:44 apart to get the River Hawks on the scoreboard and make it a 5-2 contest in favor of the Eagles. Levesque's goal was on the power play for his sixth marker of the season, while Panico notched his fifth of the year and also added an assist in the losing effort. The River Hawks outshot BC, 8-3 in the final period at the Heights.Â
Jacob Tortora made it a 5-0 game for the Eagles with 9:50 left in the middle stanza for his fifth goal of the season.
The Eagles scored two goals midway through the second period just 16 seconds apart with a goal by Graham McPhee and JD Dudek to extend BC's lead to 4-0.Â
Connor Moore made it a 2-0 game in favor of the Eagles with a slapshot from the left point on the power play just 1:48 in the second period.
BC's David Cotton got the Eagles on the board first in the game with 1:21 to play in the first period on a power play tally. BC outshot UMass Lowell, 12-9 in the first frame.
Sophomore goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) registered 17 stops in his second consecutive start for the River Hawks in the first 27:52 of play, which included 11 saves in the opening stanza. Junior
Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) played the final 32:08 in relief for the River Hawks, making 13Â saves. BC goalie Joseph Woll tallied 24Â saves in his 10
th win of the season for the Eagles.
The River Hawks return to action on Tuesday, February 6
