Box Score (.PDF)PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UMass Lowell women's volleyball team fell to Fairfield, 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 16-25) in the opening match of the Brown Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
The River Hawks fall to 1-8 overall on the season, while Fairfield improves to 4-4 overall.
Freshman outside hitter
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) led the offense with a match-high nine kills, while senior outside hitter
Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) chipped in with seven kills. Sophomore middle blocker
Elima Ahzi (San Diego, Calif.) recorded six kills, a match-high .429 hitting percentage and three blocks in the losing efforts for the River Hawks.
Junior setter
Kylee Chun (Las Vegas, Nevada) managed 21 assists running the River Hawks offense and senior libero
Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) amassed a team-high seven digs on defense.
In the second set, the River Hawks recorded 13 kills, which included 12 ties and six lead changes against the Stags.
UMass Lowell concludes play in the Brown Invitational on Saturday, September 13th with an 11:30 a.m. match against Liberty and a 7:30 p.m. tilt against host Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
