BOSTON -- Freshman outside hitter
Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) of the UMass Volleyball team was named to the America East All-Rookie Team, which was announced at the annual Championship Awards banquet on Thursday night.
Bilyeu led the River Hawks' roster in her freshman season with 195 kills and 2.19 kills per set. She amassed 10+ kills in 10 matches this season, including posting a career-high 14 kills on three occasions in her rookie campaign with UMass Lowell.
"We are once again honored that Kate was recognized by America East, said Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "She is a great athlete who pushes herself to improve every day and consistently puts the team first. She was thrust into a big role for us this year and not only did she make progress throughout the season, but we could rely on her to play confidently. She is a pleasure to coach and will no doubt have a great career, while helping UMass Lowell reach new heights."
She is the second River Hawk to garner America East All-Rookie Team honors in the program's Division I era, joining libero
Lindsey Visvardis, who earned the distinction in 2015.
Bilyeu was named America East Rookie of the Week three times during her freshman season on October 9th, November 6th and the final week of the season November 13th.
