LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior middle blocker
Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) of the UMass Lowell Volleyball team was voted as America East Volleyball Fans' Choice Player of the Year Award, as announced today by the conference office.
She beat out Stony Brook's McKyla Brooks with over 30% of the vote in the three-day span of online voting.
Adeniyi ranked third on the team with 163 kills and led the River Hawks' roster with 58 total blocks in her senior season for the River Hawks, helping the team to a Division i program-record three conference wins in America East play.
"We are delighted that Lade received the 2018 America East Fan's Choice Player of the Year," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "Our team strives to play with a tremendous amount of heart and Lade was one of the best at consistently putting everything she had into every match. This, along with her athleticism and skill level, made her a great player and a fun one to watch. It's no surprise to us that she would win this award. She deserves it and we couldn't be happier for her and for our program."
She notched 10 or more kills four times this season, which included a career-high 18 kills on September 1st vs. Fairleigh Dickinson. Adeniyi also notched three or more blocks on 11 occasions, including a season-high nine blocks on August 31st at Providence.
It marks the second straight year that a River Hawk has won the award, as libero
Lindsey Visvardis earned the honor in her junior season in 2017.
