PHOENIX, Ariz. -- The UMass Lowell women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Grand Canyon Reclassification Tournament on Friday at Antelope Gymnaisum.
The River Hawks opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss (17-25, 12-25, 14-25) to host Grand Canyon and then followed that up with a straight set loss (15-25, 9-25, 19-25) in the second match of the day to Nebraska-Omaha.
In the early match vs. the Lopes, senior middle blocker
Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) record a team-high five kills in the losing effort, while
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) and
Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) each notched four kills apiece. Senior libero
Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) registered a team-high 14 digs for the River Hawks.
In the afternoon match against the Mavericks, Merrill led the way with a team-high nine kills, while Smith totaled eight kills. Junior setter
Kylee Chun (Las Vegas, Nevada) posted 20 assists running the UMass Lowell offense and Rey recorded another eight digs on defense.
The River Hawks recorded a match-high 13 kills in the third set vs. Nebraska-Omaha with an impressive .355 hitting percentage.
UMass Lowell returns to action for the final matches of the season on Saturday, November 22 for a 9 a.m. match vs. NJIT and a 4:30 p.m. match against the Incarnate Word in Phoenix, Ariz.
