Box Score (.PDF)HARTFORD, Conn. -- The UMass Lowell volleyball team fell to the University of Hartford Hawks 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 16-25) Friday night.
The River Hawks (2-20, 0-5) built a 15-10 lead in the first set following four-straight points coming from errors and kills from
Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) and
Elima Ahzi (San Diego, Calif.). The Hawks (13-9, 2-3) scored six-straight points to take a 16-15 lead and ran to a 25-20 lead.
In the second set UMass Lowell trailed 16-10 but a kill by
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) and a service ace by Merrill set the River Hawks on a 5-0 run forcing a Hartford timeout. The Hawks regrouped and pulled out the 25-21 set.
Merrill lead the team with 10 kills, and
Kylee Chun (Las Vegas, Nev.) dished out 31 assists.
Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) added 17 digs. Smith had a team-high .429 hitting percentage.
The River Hawks return to action on the road against Stony Brook on October 19 at 1 p.m.
