BALTIMORE – The UMass Lowell women's volleyball fell to the UMBC Retrievers 3-1 (26-24, 18-25, 12-25, 13-25) on Friday evening.

In the first set, the River Hawks (2-19, 0-4) trailed 13-8 and 24-21 before rattling off five straight points to win the set 26-24. Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) had a kill to cut the deficit to 24-22, and three errors by the Retrievers (8-8, 2-1) gave UMass Lowell the win. The River Hawks had 15 kills in the set, the most by either team in the match.

Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) had 13 kills to lead the team and Kamiren Humphrey had a team-high .444 percentage. Kylee Chun (Las Vegas, Nevada) had 28 assists, and Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) had 19 digs.

UMass Lowell returns to action with a road contest at the University of Hartford on October 17 at 7 p.m.
