Final Results

Seniors Sylvain Debiais (St. Jean de Monts, France) and Andrew Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.) each finished in a tie for 27^th to lead UMass Lowell to 13^th place at the NCAA Division II Golf Tournament East-Atlantic Super Regional at the Oglebay Resort Speidel Jones Course.

UMass Lowell enjoyed its best round of the tournament – 303 – and compiled a three-day score of 934. The River Hawks, however, carded a combined 11 bogeys, including a double and a single, over the final three holes.

Indiana (Pa.) shot a 288 Wednesday and placed first with a composite score of 891 to trump Wilmington University, which shot a 297 for a final score of 896. California (Pa.), which fired a 292, placed third with a 902 while David & Elkins (N.C.) College (904) and Millersville (Pa.) (906) completed the top five.

Indiana, Wilmington and California advance to the NCAA Championship, along with Sebastian Bendsen of Davis & Elkins and Rob Coyne of Millersville, the top individuals independent of the top three teams, May 20-24 at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

Coyne placed second with rounds of 73-70-72—215 and Bendsen placed in a tie for third with a 74-76-72—222. Zack Kempa of Indiana won the individual title with rounds of 75-70-69—214.

“Basically I was disappointed we didn't play better,” said head coach Jim Mahoney. “We had higher hopes than where we ended up. But at the same time, it was a really difficult course, and we had some good moments.

“On the season, I think we did pretty darn well,” Mahoney added. “Coming in fifth in the East is a good finish. Over the course of the year we had some really outstanding rounds played. We did real well at a number of tournaments, so overall it was a good showing.”

Debiais fired two birdies on the day and was one over until suffering a triple bogey on the par-four 18^th en route to a 75. Debiais finished with rounds of 76-78-75—229.

Fecteau shot a pair of birdies, but bogeyed the final three holes en route to a two-over 73. For the tournament Fecteau shot 78-78-73—229.

Sophomore Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) enjoyed his best round of the tournament with three birdies en route to a 74, but also bogeyed the final three holes. Fay placed in a tie for 77^th with rounds of 79-87-74—240.

Sophomore Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) capped the day with an 82 and struggled with a double bogey on the 16^th and bogeys on the final three holes. Hulme placed in a tie for 79^th with a 78-81-82—241.

Senior Jordan Traa (Calgary, Alta.) fired an 81, highlighting with birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, but a double bogey on the 16^th. For the tournament, Traa placed tied for 101^st with rounds of 91-83-81—255.
