Day One Results
NORTH KINGSTON, R.I. – The UMass Lowell men's golf team sits in ninth place out of nine teams after two rounds and day one of the Rhode Island Invitational.

The River Hawks shot a first-round score of 311 and a second-round score of 303, giving them a two-round total of 614. They trail the next-place teams, Laval University and the College of the Holy Cross, by seven strokes.

Bryant University sits in first place with a two-round score of 574. Saint Joseph's University (Pa.) and Saint John's are tied for second with scores of 589.

Host College, the University of Rhode Island, is tied for fifth with Wagner University with a score of 594.
"As has been the case all year, we keep improving with each tournament round," said head coach
Ken Hughes. "By lowering our team score from a morning 311 to an afternoon 303, we have proven that we are a very competitive team. We look forward to the challenge we face in the final round."

Jonathan Burgin (Hampshire, England) shot the best two-round score amongst the River Hawks with a 151. Junior
Joe Vanaman (Kirkby-In-Ashfield, Nottingham, England) was second on the team with a score of 153.

Ryan Paris (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman
Matthew Casavant (Reading, Mass.) were next on the team with scores of 156 and 157, respectively. Sophomore
Kevin Scott (Tyngsborough, Mass.) rounded out the team with a 160.

Four of the five River Hawks shot team-low three-over-par 75 at some point during day one.

Eight pars were recorded over the course of the day, including one from Vanaman, the solo eagle recorded by UMass Lowell.

The River Hawks conclude with the Rhode Island Invitational tomorrow, April 19. The third and final round tees off at 8 a.m., with the first UMass Lowell flight teeing off at approximately 8:36 a.m. on hole 10.
