Sylvain Debiais (St. Jean de Monts, France) shot a five-over 76 to lead UMass Lowell to a share of seventh place after the first round of the NCAA Tournament East-Atlantic Super Regional at the Oglebay Resort Speidel Jones Course.

The top three teams along with the top two individuals (unaffiliated with the top three teams) advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-24 in Hershey, Pa.
“We're a couple shots out of second place,” said head coach
Jim Mahoney. “The golf course here is very difficult, just over 7,000 yards, and has very dramatic changes in elevation as you might expect here in West Virginia. And the scores today reflected that.”
Debiais, who sits in a tie for 13
th place, highlighted his round with a birdie on the par-four 12
th hole (478 yards). He shot for par on 11 holes and bogeyed six holes.
Senior
Andrew Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.) and sophomore
Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) each shot a seven-over 78 and are currently in a tie for 26
th place. Fecteau shot par on 12 holes and bogeyed six.
Hulme highlighted with a birdie on the par-five hole 14 (522 yards) and shot for par on 10 holes.
Sophomore
Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) was right behind in a tie for 38
th place with an eight-over 79. Fay birdied the par-four ninth hole (170 yards) and the par-four 17
th (184 yards).
Senior
Jordan Traa (Calgary, Alta.) struggled to a 91, which currently sits 106
th.
“We didn't think we played particularly well based on what we can do, but on the other hand, neither did anyone else,” Mahoney said. “But we're right in the hunt and the kids are very optimistic. They came off the course thinking they had not played very well because the scores were fairly high, but when they saw the other scores, they started to feel a lot better.”
Andrew Baldo of Wilmington and Jamin Smith of Charleston currently share the individual lead with a one-over 72.
UMass Lowell is among the late teams to tee off tomorrow, beginning with Fay at 12:50 p.m., Traa at 1:00, Fecteau at 1:10, Hulme at 1:20 and Debiais at 1:30.
