UMass Lowell goalkeeper
Taylor Burgess has earned the America East Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week award for her efforts in the River Hawks' 4-0 shutout victory over UMBC last Saturday.
Burgess, a native of Mendon, Mass. posted her fourth career solo shutout to help the River Hawks win their fifth straight game. Making her sixth consecutive start between the posts, Burgess tallied six saves as UMass Lowell improved to 5-1-1 overall and 4-0-0 in league action.
In seven games this season, the redshirt-freshman has registered a .912 save percentage to sit among the nations ranks at 13. The netminder has also saved .912 percent of the shots she has faced to place No. 21, as well.
This marks Burgess' third America East weekly award this season, picking up Defensive Player of the Week on March 16 and 23. This also marks the fifth overall award for the River Hawks as
Calliste Brookshire (Kingston, Mass.) and
Marissa Saucedo (Ventura, Calif.) snagged rookie nods earlier this season (3.16 & 3.23).
For her efforts, Burgess was also named River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
