Following her two-goal performance against New Hampshire, sophomore forward Katelyn Vieira (Warkwick, R.I.) earned her first America East Player of the Week honor of the season. The forward was also named River Hawk of the week on TuesdayÂ
Â
In the squad's lone contest of the week, Vieira led the River Hawks to a 2-1, come-from-behind win, against the Wildcats on Sunday, October 23 to wrap up their conference campaign. Sundays marked the program's first win against New Hampshire in the sport of women's soccer. Â
Â
The sophomore notched her first tally of the match when she sent a shot to the lower left post and past the finger tips of a diving New Hampshire goalkeeper in the 49th minute. With less than four minutes remaining, Vieira struck again on a breakaway to propel UMass Lowell to a 2-1 triumph.
Â
The contest marked Vieira's first multi-goal game of 2016Â and second of her career after netting a hat trick against Quinnipiac in 2015.
Â
The forward paces the River Hawks in points and goals this year with eight and four, respectively.
This is the second River Hawk of the Week award for the women's soccer team this season, and the third for Vieira in her career.
Â
The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
Â
UMass Lowell closes out its 2016 campaign on Tuesday, November 1 with a non-conference tilt against Dartmouth. The River Hawks will honor their senior's with a special pregame ceremony as part of Senior Night.
