Biography

AS A GRADUATE STUDENT (2024-25): Appeared in 20 games for the River Hawks with 19 starts ... Recorded an 11-8-1 record, 2.71 GAA and .895 save percentage ... Earned a 20-save shutout win at Vermont (11/16) … Named Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week (11/18) and Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Month (October 2024).

AS A SENIOR (2023-24): Appeared in a career-high 22 games for the River Hawks ... Recorded a 5-13-4 record, 2.45 GAA and .907 save percentage ... Put up a .913 conference save percentage, ranking tied for fourth in the Hockey East ... His 2.34 conference GAA ranked him in the top five of the Hockey East ... Made a career-high 46 saves in a 1-0 shutout victory against UConn (10/28) ... Named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week twice (Weeks of 10/30 & 12/04) ... Named to Mike Richter Award Watch List ... Captured NEHWA Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award ... Earned Most Valuable Player Award at annual team awards banquet. 

AS A JUNIOR (2022-23): Appeared in 16 games for the River Hawks ... Recorded a 6-6-1 record, 2.25 GAA and .916 save percentage ... Made a career-high 38 saves in a 3-2 victory at Michigan State (10/14) ... Earned back-to-back shutouts against Vermont (11/04 & 11/05) ... Named Hockey East Stop It Goaltender of the Week (Week of 11/07). 

AS A SOPHOMORE (2021-22): Saw action in six games, playing 361:19 minutes … Recorded a 1-4-1 record, 2.66 GAA and .893 save percentage.

AS A FRESHMAN (2020-21): Started 11 of 12 games for the River Hawks during his rookie season, ending with a 6-5-0 mark between the pipes…Boasted a .899 save percentage and a 2.54 GAA…Stopped an impressive 31 shots in his collegiate debut on the road against UConn (12/21)…Recorded a season-high 31 saves in the River Hawks’ impressive 6-5 double overtime win over Boston College in the 2021 Hockey East Semifinals (3/17)…Named to the 2020-21 Richter Award Watch List…Earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week honor (12/28)…named the team’s Rookie of the Year at the River Hawks’ end of the year banquet.

Before UMass Lowell: Welsch comes to Lowell after spending the last season with the Aberdeen Wings (NAHL) … saw action in 32 games, recording a 1.99 goals against average, which tied for seventh in the league … posted a 21-6-3 record … his .926 save percentage tied for sixth in the NAHL … before junior hockey, Welsch played for Lakeville South High School … recorded a 2.27 goals against average and .924 save percentage in his final season … broke the state record with 131 saves in three games during the Minnesota High School Boys State Hockey Tournament … member of the National Honor Society.
