Mussell joined the UMass Lowell sports performance staff in August 2019, and is working primarily with the field Hockey and baseball teams.
Prior to coming to UMass Lowell, he worked as a strength and conditioning coach at the Institute of Performance and Fitness in North Reading during the summer of 2019 and spent the two previous years as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Boston University where he earned his master’s degree in applied human development and coaching. Mitchell was also previously intern at BU, as well as at Montana State University in between his two graduate years.
Mussell is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), as well as a Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
A Minnesota native, Mussell earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Winona State University in 2017. He spent 3 years as a student intern under the strength and conditioning staff where he also led two local high school athletes to first and third place in the 2017 Minnesota State Olympic Weightlifting Championships.
