UMass Lowell Returns Home to Take on Vermont

LOWELL, Mass. – After playing five of its last six matches on the road, the UMass Lowell women's soccer team (3-4-3, 0-0-2 AE) plays its America East home opener against Vermont (3-4-3, 1-0-0 AE). Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, at Cushing Field.
"I'm looking forward to playing at home on Thursday," said Head Coach Mira Novak. "Vermont is always a very challenging opponent and finished second last year. I'm certainly excited for the game and the challenge ahead."
Taking on the Titans
In road matches against Binghamton and Maine, the River Hawks took two points with two 1-1 draws. For the first time since 2021, the River Hawks took a result from both Binghamton and Maine. If UMass Lowell earns a point against Vermont, it'll be the first time in program history the River Hawks come out of matches against all three foes undefeated. Either Binghamton, Maine or Vermont has been the America East regular-season champion every season since 2021.
Conference Leaders
Sophomores Nora Belin (Stockholm, Sweden) and Nina Hertz-Saebbö (Gothenburg, Sweden) lead the America East in assists and goals, respectively. Belin has six assists, while Hertz-Saebbö has six goals. For the second straight week, Belin assisted Hertz-Saebbö on a River Hawks' goal.
Historic Hertz-Saebbö
With her goal at Maine, Hertz-Saebbö became the fastest River Hawk in the program's Division I history to reach six goals in a season. She did so in seven total matches. The forward also joins an elite group, becoming the third player in UMass Lowell's DI history to score six goals across a span of seven or fewer matches. The other two players to accomplish the feat are Rachel Morrier in 2017 and Katelyn Vieira in 2015.
Wonderful Welch
Junior goalkeeper Rachel Welch (Franklin, Mass.) continued her strong season with six saves at Maine. So far this year, she's 11th in the nation and first in America East with 6.43 saves per match. Additionally, she's second in the conference with 45 total saves.

Admission to Thursday's match is free, courtesy of Eastern Salt and Mahoney Oil. Following the showdown against the Catamounts, the River Hawks have a break before a trip to Albany, N.Y., on October 11.
