LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Austin Elliott (Strathmore, Alberta) of the UMass Lowell ice hockey team (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Hockey East) has been named the Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Elliott made an immediate impact in his NCAA debut on Friday night, posting a 17-save shutout to help lead the River Hawks to a 4-0 win against Merrimack in their season opener. The netminder was steady between the pipes all game, turning aside six shots in the first period, seven in the second, and four more in the final period to preserve the clean sheet.
The award marks the first Hockey East weekly honor of Elliott's collegiate career.
