LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team (22-28, 11-12 AE) fell to the Northeastern Huskies (35-15, 15-9 CAA) 15-2 on Tuesday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

Sophomore
Carlos Martinez (Coamo, Puerto Rico) tallied two hits and one run while junior
Anthony Marcano (Boston, Mass.) hit his first homer of the year, a two-run shot to center, in the loss.

Graduate student
Frankie Venezia (Lyndhurst, N.J.) fell to 2-3 on the year after 3.0 innings and a team-high four strikeouts. Senior
Kevin Zarnoch Jr. (Boston, Mass.) went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.

Venezia got in a jam in the first inning with the bases loaded but got Sullivan swinging to end the first and keep Northeastern off the board. Senior
Fritz Genther (Kingston, N.Y.) made a great play to first for the first out of the second inning, but Northeastern loaded the bases in the next three at bats. A wild pitch scored one before back-to-back strikeouts from Venezia ended the frame.

Anthony Marcano hit his first homer of the year, a two-run blast to center field well over 400 feet to give UMass Lowell a 2-1 lead in the second inning. The Huskies took the lead in the third with a two-run homer to right before Venezia tallied another strikeout to end the inning.

Kevin Zarnoch took over in the fourth and struck out two for a 1-2-3 frame.
Carlos Martinez made a nice grab at the right field wall and Genther caught a line drive in a strong fifth inning from the River Hawks' defense. UMass Lowell went down in order to send the game to the sixth and junior
LJ Keevan (Holden, Mass.)  took over on the mound.

A lead off solo home run extended Northeastern's lead to 5-2 before tacking one two more with a double down the right field line. The Huskies added one more to take an 8-2 lead. Freshman
Kevin Rourke (Londonderry, N.H.)  took over in the seventh with two on and got out of the inning with the visitors' lead still at six.

Northeastern extended the lead in the eighth with a lead off solo home run and tacked on one more to take a 10-2 lead. The River Hawks struggled at the plate, tallying just three hits through eight innings. Northeastern scored five in the ninth to push the lead to twelve.
