Three River Hawks Honored as America East Fall Scholar-Athletes

BOSTON – Three River Hawks have all been named America East Fall Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Sophomore goalkeeper Eleonore Boekhorst (Bilthoven, Netherlands) of the field hockey team, graduate student distance runner Kyle Cloutier (Lancaster, Mass.) of the men's cross country/track & field team and senior defender Dunja Mostarac (Belgrade, Serbia) of the women's soccer team have each earned the Scholar-Athlete title for their respective sport.

The Scholar-Athlete winners have displayed excellence both academically and athletically throughout their collegiate careers. UMass Lowell becomes the first America East institution have three honorees since UAlbany in 2015.

Boekhorst, who boasted an .823 save percentage that ranked third in the country and a 1.05 goals against average in the cage this fall, owns a 3.90 GPA as an economics major at UMass Lowell. She was named to the 2021 America East Field Hockey All-Academic Team and has also earned America East Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades. The keeper is a two-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection, as well as an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction. On the turf in 2021, she recorded a Division I program record five shutouts and now tops the River Hawks' DI record list with nine career blank sheets.

Pursuing a master's in business, Cloutier earns the AE Scholar-Athlete distinction for the second time in his career. Last spring, he was tabbed a Scholar-Athlete after a stellar senior campaign for the UMass Lowell cross country team. A three-time America East Cross Country All-Academic Team selection, Cloutier has amassed an abundance of academic accolades since becoming a River Hawk. In addition to being named the 2021 America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Cloutier also earned 2020 Presidential Scholar-Athlete recognition and the 2019 Elite 18 award. At the 2021 AE Cross Country Championships, Cloutier turned in a standout performance to help the River Hawks claim back-to-back titles. His fifth-place finish earned All-Conference First Team honors.

Mostarac, a business administration major, earned America East Women's Soccer All-Academic honors all four years. Following her junior season, Mostarac was tabbed to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Scholar Athlete All-East Region Team and was named a candidate for the 2021 NCAA Senior CLASS Award. After her senior season, she was also named to the 2021 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-East Region Academic team. For her play on the field, Mostarac is a four-time America East All-Conference First Team selection. She is also the two-time America East Defender of the Year, earning the award in her junior and senior seasons. Following her senior season, she was named to the 2021 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England First Team and was selected for the NEWISA senior bowl.
