Savory Named Mike Richter Award Semifinalist

2/22/2022 2:01:00 PM

GLOUCESTER, Mass.–After being named a watch list selection, UMass Lowell men's hockey senior Owen Savory (Cambridge, Ontario) has been named a semifinalist for the 2022 Mike Richter Award, as announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Tuesday afternoon.

Established in 2014, the Richter Award annually honors the top goaltender in NCAA Division I men's hockey. Former River Hawk Connor Hellebuyck won the inaugural Richter Award in 2014.

Savory continues to be a staple between the pipes for the River Hawks, making 23 appearances this season for UMass Lowell. His 1.91 GAA ranks him third in Hockey East and his .925 save percentage sits him in fourth overall. The 2022 Hobey Baker nominee has also registered four shutouts this year, tying him for second overall in the conference and bringing him to a career-total nine.

Against the nation, Savory ranks sixth in GAA and is tied for ninth overall in save percentage. His four shutouts also rank him sixth across all Division I goaltenders.

Of the 35 original goaltenders for consideration, Savory is one of 11 semifinalists. The group of 11 was chosen by a panel of voters comprised of members from across the hockey community. The winner of the 2022 Mike Richter Award will be announced in April during the 2022 Frozen Four.
