HEA POTW Grigals,

Grigals, Jonsson Earn HEA Weekly Honors

10/3/2022 2:01:00 PM

AMESBURY, Mass.—Graduate student Gustavs Davis Grigals (Riga, Latvia) and sophomore Isac Jonsson (Ängelholm, Sweden) have been tabbed the Hockey East Goaltender and Defender of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

The defensive duo played a pivotal role in the River Hawks' 4-0 shutout over the Saints on Saturday night. In his debut, Grigals recorded 27 saves to secure his first win as a River Hawk and become just the second goaltender in program history to record a shutout in his first appearance for UMass Lowell.

Jonsson played a full-ice game on Saturday with contributions on both offense and defense. The sophomore logged his first career goal along with an assist to finish the night with a team-best two points. In addition to a +2 rating, Jonsson registered a block and served on a penalty kill unit that shut down all five St. Lawrence power play opportunities.

In addition to being named the HEA Goaltender of the Week, Grigals was also tabbed the River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.

UMass Lowell returns to action this weekend, Oct. 7-8, to take on Miami University (OH). Puck drop for the first game of the series is set for 7:15 p.m.
