No. 12 River Hawks earn 2-2 with Boston University in series finale

Chase Blackmun and Austin O'Rourke scored goals for the River Hawks in the tie

LOWELL, Mass. -- The No. 12 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team earned a 2-2 tie against Boston University on Saturday night at the Tsongas Center in front of 6,234 fans in Hockey East play.

The River Hawks now own a 13-7-5 overall record (7-4-4 HEA), while BU moves to 9-8-6 overall (6-4-5 HEA).

"Overall, if you get points in Hockey East, you have to be pleased with the hockey game," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "Obviously, we gave one up late and that's not ideal for us, but we got a point and we are going to move forward with it."

BU's Patrick Curry tied the game with 2:14 to play to get the Terriers a point on the night. Curry finished the night with a game-high five shots on goal.

Sophomore forward Austin O'Rourke (Canton, Ga.) gave the River Hawks a 2-1 lead a little over two minutes after Chabot's goal in the middle frame for his second goal in the last three games. O'Rourke finished the game with a team-high four shots on goal.

Sophomore defenseman Chase Blackmun (Hudson, Wis.) opened the scoring in the game with his fourth goal of the year, putting home a rebound off a shot by Matt Brown (Wood Ridge, N.J.) at 8:28 on the opening frame. Gabe Chabot tied the with 3:26 left in the second period tie help tie the game for the Terriers at 1-1.

Senior goalie Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) stopped 30 shots in the tie for the River Hawks, which included 14 saves in the third stanza, while Ashton Abel notched 25 stops for the Terriers.

Sophomore forward Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ont.) won a game-high 14 face-offs for the River Hawks. 

UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, February 7th at Boston College. Game time from Conte Forum is 7 p.m. The game will be streamed nationally and internationally via CBS All-Access.
