Biography
AS A JUNIOR (2020-21): Saw action in 19 games for the River Hawks this season, amassing 11 points off six goals and five assists…Finished tied for fifth on the team in points, tied for third on the team in goals, and tied for eighth on the team in assists…Finished the year with a +3 rating…Led the River Hawk defense squad in scoring with 11 points alongside Seth Barton…One of three River Hawks to tally two power play goals this season…Ranked third on the squad in blocked shots with 14…Registered his first career hat trick against Maine (1/4)…Named Hockey East Player of the Week following a four-point weekend against Maine, where he registered the first hat trick by a River Hawk defenseman since 2016…Recorded a season-high two assists on the road against Boston College in the Hockey East Semifinals (3/17).
AS A SOPHOMORE (2019-20): Ranked fifth on the team in scoring as a sophomore with a career-high 17 points (5g,12a) leading all River Hawk defenders in scoring, playing in all 34 games for the River Hawks. His career-high 12 assists were tied for second on the UMass Lowell roster. He registered 12 (4g,8a) of his 17 points in 24 Hockey East contests. Notched two game-winnings goals on the season, including the overtime winner against Penn State on November 30th in the Turkey Leg Classic Championship Game at the Tsongas Center. Scored a point in 15 games on the season and the River Hawks were 9-3-3 when Blackmun scored a point. Was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team for the second straight season.Â
AS A FRESHMAN (2018-19): Blackmun appeared in 32 of 37 games for the River Hawks, posting 14 points (5g,9a) with a +9 plus/minus rating and 51 shots on goal. His 14 points was second most among River Hawk rookies and was the third best total among Hockey East rookie blueliners. He totaled all 13 of his 14 points in 22 league contests. Blackmun notched his first career goal on November 2nd at Maine. Recorded seven assists on the power play for the River Hawks. Blackmun has recorded points in 10 games this year, which includes three multi-point efforts. Amassed a career-high three points (1g,2a) in the 6-3 win against Merrimack on February 22nd at the Tsongas Center. Had a career-high six shots on goal at Merrimack on February 23rd. Was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Feb. 25th with four points (2g,2a) and 10 shots on goal in the River Hawks' three-point effort in the series vs. Merrimack in late February. Blackmun dressed in the last 28 contests for the River Hawks, after playing only four of the first nine games to start the season. UMass Lowell owned a 5-2-3 record when Blackmun scored a point.Â
Previous Team: Blackmun played last season for River Hawk alum Mark Carlson with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He recorded 25 points (4g,21a) for the Roughriders in 55 contests last season. He won the Davis Drewiske Award (Wisconsin's best defenseman) in his senior year at Hudson High School where he helped lead the team to a State Championship. He was also named First-Team All-State and Conference MVP, while serving as team captain. He played in 24 games in his senior year, while recording 44 points (13g,31a). Was First-Team All-State and First-Team All-Conference in his junior year as well, posting 25 points (8g,17a) in 24 games. In 95 career games for Hudson High, Blackmun notched 119 career points. Played for Team USA at the World Jr. A Challenge.
Personal: Son of Amy and Michael... Has four siblings, Ella, Cooper, Ireland and Isla... His cousin Drew Blackmun plays hockey at Union... His nicknames are Blacky and Chaser... In his time away from the rink he loves watching the Minnesota Vikings, playing golf, hanging out with my friends and family, bonfires, working out and attending the Minnesota State Fair... Favorite TV show is Friday Night Lights... His favorite professional sports team is the Minnesota Vikings... His favorite sports figure in LeBron James and his greatest sports influence is his father Michael. His greatest sports moment was winning the Wisconsin High school state championship my senior year."
