Tyler Wall nominated for Hobey Baker Award

Wall has posted a 12-3-4 record with a 1.81 GAA and a .941 save percentage so far in his senior season

LOWELL, Mass. --
Senior goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) of the No. 13 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, which was announced on Thursday afternoon.

Awarded annually to college hockey's top player, the Hobey Baker's tremendously popular fan-voting will run from now until Sunday, March 8 at midnight. College hockey fans can cast their vote by going to the voting website http://www.hobeybaker.com/vote.  Follow the prompts to make your selection from this year's outstanding crop of 79 college hockey players representing 45 NCAA Division I schools.
 
Phase two of fan balloting will come from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists beginning March 19 and closing March 29. The fans' vote accounts for a full one percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient.
 
Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.  
 

Wall has posted a 12-3-4 record in 19 starts in his senior season with a 1.81 GAA, a .941 save percentage and two shutouts. His .941 save percentage is ranks tied for second among Div. I goaltenders and his GAA ranks sixth in the nation. His 561 saves ranks ninth among NCAA goalies and his 213 saves in the third period and overtime rank third nationally among netminders.

He has allowed two goals or fewer in 14 of 19 starts this season and has registered 30+ saves in 11 contests so far this season. 

In Hockey East play, he has posted a 6-2-3 record with a 2.04 GAA and a .939 save percentage. His .939 save percentage leads all goalies in league play, while his 2.04 GAA ranks second among Hockey East goalies.

Wall broke Dwayne Roloson's Division I school record for career wins with his 52nd victory on Friday, January 10th at RIT in the 6-4 victory. 

The list of 79 candidates were nominated by their schools. The nominated candidates include: 45 forwards, 18 defensemen and 16 goalies. By conference: Atlantic Hockey 12, Big Ten 9, ECAC 16, Hockey East 12, NCHC 15, WCHA 12 and Independent 3. 

The 2020 Hobey Baker winner will be announced on Friday, April 10th at the Frozen Four in Detroit, Mich.
