River Hawks earn 13-8 road win on Tuesday at Dartmouth

Cory Highfield notched four goals and Ryan Morrison tallied his first career hat trick in the victory

HANOVER, N.H. -- Seniors Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.) and Ryan Morrison (Uxbridge, Ont.) each had a hat trick in the 13-8 victory for the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team at Dartmouth in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field.

UMass Lowell improves to 2-2 overall in its first of four straight road contests, while the Big Green fall to 1-3 overall with the loss.

"It's great, when you play a skilled team like this, we knew we would need to have our best game coming in here," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Ed Stephenson. "I thought we started out a little slow and it took us a while to get going, but I thought in the second quarter we started to find our groove a little bit."

The River Hawks exploded for nine goals in the second half, including five in the third quarter. Highfield's four goals were a career-high and Morrison netted his first career hat trick. William Russo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) also added four points (2g,2a) in the victory for UMass Lowell.

UMass Lowell owned a 4-2 lead at halftime, thanks to two goals from Highfield.

Matt Paul recorded a game-high four goals for the Big Green.

Senior goalie Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) totaled nine saves in his first win of the season for the River Hawks, while Daniel Hincks stopped 10 shots in the losing effort for Dartmouth.

Freshman Liam McDonough (Groton, Mass.) amassed 12 ground balls and won 18-of-25 (72%) face offs in the contest for UMass Lowell.

The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 9th at Manhattan. Game time from Gaelic Park is 11:30am.
